Visit the circuit and help the Club
28/04/2008 21:16:14
You will no doubt be very aware that HKRC have been undertaking a major resurfacing and improvements programme at the circuit since the last meeting in March.  Hopefully you will have been keeping in touch with progress at the track via the updates posted on the HKRC web site. The contractors left the site on Friday, with the new track surface, kerbs, and track edge and grid markings in place, Now HKRC has a bit of 'graft' to do!

This is where we would appreciate your help!  To have the circuit in prime condition for you, the HKRC members, there are many jobs to complete prior to the next meeting and new track opening on May 10/11th. Work is already well underway with painting of all the new kerbing that have been installed. This will continue through this weekend and into next weekend.  So please try and find some time to come and help out with the many jobs that require to be completed before the May race weekend. You would be most welcome - beverages and snacks will be available and the tools required will be provided.  If you have any queries, please give us a call  on the info number 01480 212210.

It will also be an opportunity for you to come and have a sneaky preview of the circuit prior to the race meeting in a couple of weeks!

The track resurfacing project is keeping to the planned time table with the help of Buckinghams. New tarmac started to be laid Monday 14th April and would be completed by Friday 18th April.

The new surface will have the same grip characteristics as the old track but with a less abrasive surface allowing for improved tyre wear. The new surface also will allow improved drainage and reduced noise. The week beginning 21st April, the white lining, alfano and timing strips will be added along with kerb painting and general tidying of the site.

Confirmation that Circuit one will be used for the May Race Meeting

Website updates
13/03/2008 21:40:28
It has been recognized that the HKRC website requires updating in many areas and the plan is to deal with these over the coming weeks to coincide with the track resurfacing project  Items to include amongst many is a revised video clip of the circuit one and two.So the aim is to have all aspects of the website current for the remaining HKRC 2008 race calendar.
Track resurfacing update bulletin 1
13/03/2008 20:58:51
Buckingham's are on site and work has started on the long awaited track resurfacing project. Monday 10th March the preparation began and HKRC can now confirm that both track one and track two layouts will be resurfaced with all new CIK approved kerbs.Further bulletins will be published over the coming weeks.
Resurfacing scope of works
07/03/2008 17:47:21
Removing all the existing track surface to provide an excellent base for the new surface – rather than potentially adding to existing underlying problems; replacing the ‘manmade HKRC kerbs’ with CIK internal and exit kerbs in accordance with MSA regulations; minor remodelling of Stow and Kimbolton corners to improve safety and we hope the first corner ‘accident rate’!will become a historical problem.

We are also planning a minor remodelling of Hangar to include a widened track surface to include a slight positive camber – this primarily will help with the drainage problems we encounter in heavy rainfall, but will also we hope, provide a great new challenging corner for all drivers.

Bus stop 2 has also come under review, with the radii being put back to where it was originally – this is a tighter radii that will offer greater speed differential between approach and corner to help encourage overtaking opportunities.

The resurfacing works at Kimbolton
07/03/2008 17:43:15
The resurfacing works at Kimbolton will start on Tuesday 11th March.  The works are being carried out by the Buckingham Group; they have vast experience in undertaking resurfacing works, including the last iteration of Silverstone, the ongoing maintenance of all Motorsports Vision circuits, and the circuit and Bedford Aerodrome.

HKRC has taken these works very seriously and engaged with the best in the business to provide our members and visitors with the best circuit possible.  The works are to be carried out over an 8 week period, to be completed in time for the May race meeting on the 10/11th; we are expecting a bumper entry, with plenty of interest in trying out the new circuit so get your entries in early!

02/03/2008 13:03:04

NEW VENUE FOR MAXXIS FORMULA TKM FESTIVAL
10/10/2007 20:19:20

The Maxxis Formula TKM Festival, the UK’s largest one make karting event, is moving venues next year to the Whilton Mill circuit while planning problems are resolved at Hunts Kart Racing Club, Kimbolton, the club which helped create the event 10 years ago.

Formula TKM organisers, Tal-Ko Racing, have been forced to make the change because there is no guarantee of a planning issue being resolved quickly at Kimbolton, one effect of which means there can be no Friday testing.

Announcing the change of venue, Tal-Ko Managing Director Alan Turney said: “We are sad to leave Kimbolton because between us we have developed this event and the club have put so much hard work into it. But as we know from this year’s event, not being able to run a Friday test day is a serious problem and especially puts off those drivers who travel to the Festival from a long way off.

“We have always strived to make this a very special event and one which is open to the maximum number of drivers of all capabilities taking part in an event we hope everyone enjoys. With that in mind we have looked around carefully for a suitable alternative venue.

“The team at Whilton Mill headed by Steve Chapman have a wealth of experience, a recently extended excellent circuit and ever improving facilities. We feel very confident that they will put every effort into making the TKM Festival a continuing success story.”

He added: “We extend our very great thanks to Kimbolton for all their efforts over the past 10 years and we look forward to possibly being able to return there once the planning issue is resolved.”

Steve Chapman, in confirming Whilton Mill would be pleased to host the event, went on to say: “We are thrilled to have the honour of running this event for Tal-Ko, but disappointed for Kimbolton who have worked so hard to develop the event to what it is.  We will do our best to continue Kimbolton’s good work but hope to add some of the flare that Whilton is renown for.”

The Maxxis Formula TKM Festival will take place on its traditional date – August 8/9/10 – with racing for all TKM 2 and 4-stroke classes including the newly announced Junior Extreme category.

The Whilton Mill team will be laying on special arrangements for the event including an enlarged paddock area utilising its smaller corporate track and night-time food and drinks in its permanent facility.

The event will again feature full TV coverage and post event DVDs. Fuller details will be announced shortly and entry packs will be available from early next year.

Maxxis Tyres, suppliers of race tyres to all the Formula TKM classes, will be continuing their long standing support for this premier event on the UK karting calendar.

BDRC Stars of Tomorrow sponsored cycle ride visit Kimbolton
26/09/2007 20:56:06
Motorsport News has written an article about a project Carolynn Hoy is  undertaking in 2008. Karting for the disabled - to be run in the same way as the hugely successful Riding for the Disabled.

Carolynn says,We aim to buy 10 karts specially modified with hand controls using our Championship Truck to transport them to various indoor kart centres nationally. Together with Chris Aylett of the MIA we have been working with a group of drivers who do not wish their disability to stop them enjoying their motorsport and are truly inspirational. Their ultimate aim is to get more disabled drivers into mainstream racing and this project will give those who wish to take it further the confidence to do so.

To raise the money required to get this project going the BRDC Stars of Tomorrow competitors, myself and the Championship Team are undertaking a cycle ride (!!). We will set up from Llandow Kart Circuit (Cardiff) on October 3rd heading for SHenington Kart Circuit (Banbury) onto Kimbolton (Huntingdon), then Three Sisters Circuit (Wigan) before the long haul up to Larkhall Kart Circuit (Hamilton) which makes it almost 800 miles. We need to raise £50,000 for the project. We hope to get a few well known drivers to join us for a few hours along the way (Jason Plato is a Championship supporter and hopes to do so)   and Sainsbury's are kindly feeding and watering all the participants and we will be camping We hope to arrive at Kimbolton on October 9th.Club members can join us!!

Mark Milsom, one of HKRC's supporting paramedics unfortunately sustained a very serious leg break while responding to an incident that occurred in the Intermediate Final during the TKM Festival. The resulting medical treatment required at trackside gave rise to a considerable delay in the race programme. HKRC and the MSA Officials were forced to make a decision on the format for the remainder of the meeting, reducing the number of laps for the remaining Grand Finals, but despite huge efforts, time constraints did not allow the TKM Elite Final to be completed.

Mark will be off work for at least 6 months with follow up surgery required. HKRC has started a collection for Mark and anyone wishing to add to the Club's contribution is asked to visit race control over the September race weekend or send a cheque payable to HKRC to The Hunts Kart Racing Club Ltd,
