Another bumper entry saw more than 220 competitors at Kimbolton for the final round of Hunts Kart Racing Club’s 2007
Winter Championships. After the events of last month, the Clerk of the Course had the Extreme drivers watch the Cadet
race, to see how it should be done!
Cadet: Brett Wykes made a break from the pack and driving a controlled race, led to the flag. Jake Dennis followed in
second, pursued by Jacob Stilp. Stilp moved up a place at half distance, but Dennis took the place back on the next lap
with Alexander Albon following Dennis through for third. Harry Webb was first novice.
Junior TKM/TKM Intermediate: Junior TKM and Intermediates raced in split grids. In Juniors, Gary Henderson-Kierle
was the second lights-to-flag winner of the day, although Joe Porter pressed him all the way. Ben Barker fought his way
through to third by lap four, but was unable to progress further. Will Van Es won the novice award. Intermediates was
dominated by James Blake who grabbed the lead at the start and went on to win by some distance. Thomas Kolasky
was looking good for second until he came to a stop on lap six. Jack Kemp inherited the place with Alistair Clarke moving
up to third.
Rotax Mini Max: Ben Palmer got the better of Lewis Hall at the start and led to the flag, whilst Hall dropped out of the
reckoning. Callum Bowyer slotted into second, just failing to grab the win off Palmer on the run to the line. Max Robinson
made gradual progress taking third from Luke Gardiner on the penultimate lap. James Abbott was first novice.
JICA/Rotax Junior Rotax: In JICA, Max Goff was straight into the lead, pulling away from pole man Sam Jenkins for an
easy win. Alistair Walker advanced to third at the start, but dropped out, handing the place to Ross Jenkins. Junior Rotax
pole sitter Jack Goff led David Pittard, but Daniel Lloyd from grid six was flying. Soon into second, he gradually reeled in
the leader, passing Goff on lap eight. Jessica Newson took the novice award.
Rotax Senior 177: Martin Reader made no mistake on his way to a lights-to-flag win. Chris Emerson took over second
spot from Lee Torrie, but was unable to do anything about the runaway leader.
TKM Extreme: At the start, Daniel Graham took the lead in a determined move to pass Ryan Cole, and stayed there to
the end. Luke Caudle was soon into his stride from grid ten and by lap four was up to third. In a frantic finish, Caudle
crossed the line ahead of Cole, but was handed a one-place penalty, giving Cole second in the final results.
Rotax Senior Max: Kyle Chesterman’s lead was short lived, muscled out of the lead as they rounded Stow for the first
time. Marc Dawson led Jamie White and Karl Haxton with Steven Johnson moving up from twelfth. Haxton and Johnson
passed White on lap four, with Johnson taking second two laps from the end. Ellis Slater won the novice award.
250: Ron Stamp got the better start, but Ashley Mack was soon past him to take over at the front. Martin Jones picked up the pace as he came from the back of the grid up to second in just four laps, but moments later he had to retire.
Stamp reclaimed second with Martin Goodliffe a distant third.
125 ICC: Tom Hibbert led James Mudd, Frank Wrathall and pole man Nik Goodfellow. Wrathall was looking determined
and passed Mudd and Hibbert on successive laps. Once ahead, he gained a respectable lead. Mudd’s kart came on in
the latter half of the race and he passed Hibbert for second with one lap remaining, setting a new class lap record in the
process. Chris Thexton won the novice award.
