September Race Report

Kimbolton 9th September 2007

With a visit from the Super 4 National Gearbox Championship, time was of the essence when club racing resumed at Kimbolton on 9th September. Fortunately the weather was kind and the forty one race programme was completed without a hitch.

Cadet: As is the usual case at Kimbolton, the Cadets provided a thrilling race with the result in doubt to the very last lap. O Plate champion Jake Dennis, Stars of Tomorrow champion Brett Wykes and runner up Alex Walker set off to slog it out over ten laps. Dennis held the lead with Walker and Wykes following. They continued nose-to-tail for lap after lap. With one to go, Dennis took up a defensive position down the inside of Hines Straight, Walker went to the outside, and Wykes drove between the two of them to take the lead! As Walker and Dennis continued to fight over second, they touched at the Bus Stop and both went off, giving Toby Sowery second and James Armitage third. James Webb took the novice award.

Junior TKM: Gary Henderson-Keirle made the most of pole to lead from Oliver Hodgson and Joe Porter who out-muscled William Hilliard at Stow. Hodgson had other ideas and was soon into the lead whilst both Hilliard and hard charging Ben Barker passed Porter. A couple of laps later Barker was into third and closing the gap to Henderson-Keirle, who was now pressing Hodgson. With two laps left Barker passed Henderson-Kierle, at Kimbolton, but by Stow was back in fourth. Then a determined move at the Bus Stop saw him pass Henderson-Keirle again, but opportunist Hilliard took them both to run second! As Hodgson eased away to win, the three piled into Kimbolton together and Barker emerged in second with Henderson-Keirle third and Hilliard back where he started in fourth!

Rotax Mini Max/TKM Intermediate: Both Mini-Max and Intermediates were sorted fairly early on. Sam Ward led the Mini-Max from Elliot Marzell and George Williams, but both Adam Bonham and Jordan Aveline went past for second and third respectively. The novice award went to Aaron Charles. In Intermediates, Jack Kemp led James Blake by some distance, who in turn was comfortably ahead of Thomas Kolasky. Scott Bugner took the novice award.

Rotax Junior Max: Aaron Head had been setting the pace in the Junior Rotax heats and he was straight into the lead with Jake Parker, David Turton, Jack Goff and Charlie Turner following. Suddenly it was all change as Turton and Goff moved up with Parker and Head dropping back. Head re-took Parker for third and set off after Goff, whilst Parker had to defend fourth from Turner. Two laps from the end, Head slipped through to second and Goff lost more places defending third from Parker. Greg Jackson took the novice award.

125 ICC: In 125, fast starting Jack Angus led from start to finish for the third month in a row. Robin Kingham got the jump on Paul Lawson for second, but wasn’t able to stay ahead for long. Lawson began to close the gap to Angus, but couldn’t get close enough to challenge the leader. Chris Thexton took the novice award.

Rotax Senior 177: Lee Torrie led Simon Pugh from the front row, with Scott Clee getting the better of Benjamin Davies from row two. Torrie and Pugh traded fastest laps, but Torrie was able to keep his lead to the line. Clee ended up an untroubled third, with the novice award going to Steve Lloyd.

Rotax Senior Max: Steven Johnson was the early leader from Josh Parker as pole sitter Marc Dawson lost out at the start. Dawson was soon into his stride and into second, but with Johnson’s lead over one and a half seconds, it seemed doubtful he could be caught. Half way through the race, Johnson put in a slow lap and this gave Dawson the impetus to rapidly close in on the leader, Parker following in his wheel tracks. With three to go, Dawson swept past Johnson at Kimbolton to lead, but Johnson fought back down Hines Straight. Into Stow, they touched wheels and Dawson spun round, allowing Parker into the lead, Johnson continuing in second. Paul Walsh took third and Dean Mason was the novice winner.

TKM Extreme: Oliver Sedden emerged from the Willows ahead of Joe Forsdyke, Luke Caudle and Rob Carter, but Caudle was soon into second and pressing the leader. On lap three, Caudle took over at the front and Carter moved up to third. William Reed who had started well down the grid was moving rapidly through the field, sixth by half distance. As Reed continued his progress, he caught Forsdyke and Carter who were so intent on their battle they failed to notice the potential challenge. Reed squeezed his kart past the pair of them on the final lap, Carter spinning out and Forsdyke finishing fourth. Stephen James took the novice award.
